EBI Forges Strategic Research Alliance with Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew and Ethiopian Universities

Addis Ababa – The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) concludes discussions with researchers and scholars from national and international institutions. The collaborative meeting included representatives from the world-renowned Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew (UK), Addis Ababa University, and Mettu University.

The primary objective of the talks was to identify and solidify key areas for joint research initiatives. This new alliance will leverage EBI's national research mandate with Kew's global scientific expertise and the unique botanical and ecological knowledge housed within Ethiopia's academic institutions. Potential collaboration areas include biodiversity conservation, agrobiodiversity conservation (Enset, Coffee), payment for "biodiversity conservation services", sustaining community seed banks and climate change resilience.

This partnership marks a significant milestone in national and international scientific cooperation. By uniting our efforts, we aim to conduct groundbreaking research that addresses critical global challenges and promotes the sustainable use of Ethiopia's rich biological resources.
