Ethiopia celebrated International Day for Biological Diversity with various programs.

The 20th International Biodiversity Day was celebrated at the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) under the theme "Living in Harmony with Nature."

A press release was issued on May 19, 2025, at the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute Hall to commemorate the occasion.

The press conference was led by Dr. Karta Kaske, Director General of the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute, and Dr. Abiyot Berhanu, Deputy Director General. The program concluded with comprehensive responses to questions from journalists.

An exhibition opened on May 20, 2025, at the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute as part of the celebration of International Day for Biological Diversity.

The exhibition showcased research work conducted by the institute, with partner organizations also presenting their work.

A panel discussion was held emphasizing the importance of continuing development in harmony with biodiversity conservation for sustainability and highlighting the need to conserve and maintain Ethiopia's biodiversity resources sustainably.

Dr. Karta Kaske opened the panel discussion, stressing the significance of national programs like the Green Belt in biodiversity conservation.

Panelists emphasized enhancing the contribution of resources to production, productivity, food security, ecotourism, and other development sectors by protecting them from destruction.

The day was also celebrated with a traditional food festival showcasing how biodiversity can be integrated with community knowledge to create healthy, flavorful foods. Communities from various regions presented their traditional foods in unique and diverse ways.

Staff from the Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute visited the Gulele Botanical Center. After the visits, workers planted seedlings at the center with their colleagues, encouraging each other to celebrate by visiting and caring for the previously planted seedlings.

The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) presented certificates of appreciation to departments, leaders, and employees who made significant financial contributions to the celebration of International Biodiversity Day. Dr. Abiyot Berhanu, Deputy Director General of the institute, expressed gratitude to all who helped ensure the success of the celebration.
