The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) had the honor of hosting Her Excellency Ms. Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), at our institute to discuss the implementation of the CBD in Ethiopia

The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) had the honor of hosting Her Excellency Ms. Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (CBD), at our institute to discuss the implementation of the CBD in Ethiopia.

A key focus of the discussion was the status of Ethiopia’s National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) and the 7th National Report to the CBD. We assured Her Excellency Ms. Astrid that the final NBSAP and the 7th National Report will be submitted on time.

Her Excellency toured our national genebank, which holds more than 92,000 accessions of plants and is the largest in Africa.

Following the visit, we conducted a tree-planting ceremony with coffee seedlings on our premises, and Her Excellency Ms. Astrid planted a coffee seedling in her name.
