Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute Launches Major Renovation of its Forest Genebank
Addis Ababa – The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute (EBI) launches a critical renovation phase for its national forest genebank. This significant project, made possible by the generous financial support of the German development bank KFW, aims to bring the facility to full operational capacity.
The genebank was originally established with the support of GIZ (Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit) but has remained incomplete and non-operational since its construction. The new funding from KFW will address these long-standing challenges, enabling a comprehensive renovation of the infrastructure and equipment.
Upon completion, the fully operational genebank will play a vital role in the conservation of Ethiopia's unique and diverse forest genetic resources, safeguarding them for future generations.
