High level Policy Briefing on mainstreaming biodiversity Conducted at Skylight Hotel
The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute in collaboration with IUCN conducted a high-level policy briefing on Mainstreaming Biodiversity in the Agricultural Systems of Ethiopia.
Studies show that the 6th mass extinction is underway and one million species worldwide are already facing extinction unless action is taken.
Such profound risks require transformational solutions across the "whole -of- government and the whole- of- society" approach.
His Excellency Dr. Girma Amente, Minister Ministry of Agriculture, stressed the need to address such issues with caution and consider sustainability in our production system by mainstreaming biodiversity into the agricultural system.
Ethiopia ratified the CBD in 1994 and a National Biodiversity Strategy and Action Plan (NBSAP) has been in place. The second review of the NBSAP is underway, which emphasizes "Living in harmony with nature". Heads of various institutions participated on the dialogue.
