The Ethiopian Biodiversity Institute met with His Excellency Dr. Girma Amente, Minister of Agriculture (MoA), and Her Excellency Ms. Astrid Schomaker, Executive Secretary of the Convention on Biological Diversity (SCBD).
Dr. Girma Amente emphasized Ethiopia's efforts in restoring the country's degraded lands through the Green Legacy Initiative (GLI), led by Prime Minister Dr. Abiy Ahmed. He also highlighted Ethiopia's biodiversity contributions to sustainable agriculture and development, stressing the importance of international collaborations with organizations like the SCBD.
Ms. Astrid Schomaker recognized Ethiopia's role as a CBD signatory and its collaborations in similar areas. She also mentioned the Cali fund (for Digital Sequence Information) and voluntary contributions from industries that will benefit developing countries like Ethiopia.
As a CBD signatory, Ethiopia has made significant contributions and played important roles for the past 31 years.
